Preparing HVAC Systems for the Holidays
The holidays are coming up, and you know what that means: Christmas lights, setting up the tree, buying gifts and… Getting your HVAC system set up for the winter season? Probably not a thought that crosses our mind with all the business of the holidays, but the last thing you want is to have a bunch of guests over and a major breakdown, especially with how warm the winters have been lately! Avoid the drama by getting your HVAC system geared up and ready for the holidays.
Air Filters
When you welcome guests into your home, you want them to feel refreshed and comfortable. No proud homeowner wants a home filled with strange odors, or air that will irritate those unfortunate few with allergies. Over the course of normal operation, your air filter will get itself clogged with dirt, pollen, pet hair, dust, and all kinds of other airborne nasties.
Dirty air filters won’t just struggle to clean your air, they’ll also place a lot of strain on your comfort system. Your HVAC is going to end up needing to work double-time if it’s going to be able to push air through those clogged filters. Stop these issues at their source by replacing your filters regularly. Your guests and your family (and especially you!) will be able to breathe a lot easier–literally.
Your Outdoor Unit
Often forgotten, you’ll get winter off to a good start if you remember to clean the outdoor part of your HVAC system. All it takes is getting out there and doing a quick tidy around your condenser, clearing it of any pine needles, grass clippings, leaves, fallen branches, rocks, and other crud. Do it while gardening, or playing with the dog, and you’ll greatly extend the lifespan of your HVAC system.
Seasonal Maintenance
This goes without saying, but you should be scheduling regular maintenance on your system at least twice a year. Come see us at Florida Air Express and we’ll make sure to keep you comfortable all throughout the year, but especially when you’re gonna have so many smiling faces in your home. We’ll make sure your system is cleaned, inspected, repaired, and serviced, or even replaced. Get on the ball and schedule a maintenance appointment ASAP!
Around the House
Though the professionals are important, there are plenty of things you can do around your home to make sure that your HVAC system is running as well as it can. If you’ve already started decorating, now would be a good time to make sure you don’t have any of that decor blocking your vents. Any obstructions can cause blocked airflow and will force your poor system to work overtime. And while you’re doing that, it doesn’t hurt to check and make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working right. That way you’ll have nothing to do but enjoy your guests during the holidays.
