ProCat® Blown-In Insulation
Homeowners in Lakeland and throughout Polk County have come to know and trust the heating and cooling experts at Florida Air Express for our top-quality, energy-efficient air conditioning systems at competitive prices. As a result, we have crawled through many attics and crawlspaces, inspecting ductwork, vents, and insulation to ensure we provide the right-size equipment to meet their home heating and cooling needs.
However, we discovered that many Polk County, Florida homes are actually under-insulated, especially in areas like attics, garages, and other spaces that retain heat. This not only increases the load on your HVAC system but also increases heating and cooling costs and makes your home more susceptible to mold, mildew, and pests. So, we are excited to offer a top-quality blown-in insulation service that will make your home more comfortable, quieter, and energy-efficient. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates adding insulation in attics, floors over crawl spaces, and other areas can save homeowners an average of 15 percent in heating and cooling costs.
Is Your Polk County Home Under-Insulated?
A 2009 study by the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) found that about 90 percent of homes were under-insulated. Normal wear and tear, moisture, pests, and other factors can deplete the insulation in your home. As the insulation in your home starts to disappear, you will hear more street noises, have inconsistent indoor temperatures, and notice higher energy bills.
What is Blown-In Insulation?
Our blown-in insulation utilizes the ProCat® Professional Loosefill Insulation System by Owens Corning®. It is a specialized system that ensures a continuous layer of insulation is filled in all of the cavities in the attic and other necessary spaces to seal any air leaks or gaps in existing insulation, correcting any thermal deficiencies in the home. You will immediately notice the results with reduced outside noises, more comfortable and consistent indoor temperatures, increased energy efficiency, and of course, lower energy bills.
A Healthier, Quieter, and More Comfortable Home
We are offering our customers the Owens Corning® ProCat® blown-in insulation due to its superior thermal performance that will make your home safer, quieter, and more comfortable. The ProCat® Professional Loosefill insulation we use is non-corrosive, is formaldehyde-free, and certified GREENGUARD Gold. In addition, its moisture-resistant properties protect your home against pests, mold, mildew, and other types of bacteria and fungus growth. It also has a Class A fire rating which gives your home an additional layer of protection in case of fire.
Signs Your Home May Need Insulation
- You hear more street noises
- Some rooms are warmer or cooler than others
- Water leaks in the attic and other spaces
- Roof damage
- Increased mold and mildew around the house
- There are more pests in the home
- Energy bills are rising
How Much Insulation Does My Home Need?
Our blown-in insulation is like wrapping your home in a thermal blanket which acts as an air barrier to keep your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The amount of insulation your home will need will largely depend on the climate where you live. For example, an attic may require up to 20 inches of insulation. The U.S. Department of Energy classifies the United States into seven climatic zones. Since Polk County is in Zone 2, R25 to R30 insulation is recommended in attics with at least 3 to 4 inches of existing insulation, and R30 to R49 insulation in uninsulated attics. The R-value indicates the insulation’s heat resistance ability. Insulation with higher R-values provides better thermal performance. Our specially trained heating and cooling experts will inspect the insulation to determine the amount of insulation your home will need.
Insulation Protects Your Biggest Investment – Your Home
For most Floridians, their home is their single most significant investment. However, Central Florida’s hot and humid climate can accelerate the deterioration of building materials and insulation depletion, leaving your home open to air leaks and higher energy bills. In addition, when it rains, moisture seeps through these air pockets, which is also a source for pest infestations, mold, and many other issues such as roof leaks. These air pockets also allow the outside air to mix with your conditioned indoor air making your home less comfortable while increasing wear and tear on your HVAC system as it works harder to maintain the desired temperature.
